Your destination wedding can be as elaborate or simple as you like.  Costs vary, according to your preferences and decisions.  The best value is going to be found at all inclusive resorts that cater to weddings. Most resorts will allow you to bring decorations like centerpieces with you, which can save quite a bit.  Our expert destination wedding travel planners can suggest options to lower costs and stay within your budget.

You can do things your way – where you want it.  Want your toes to be in the sand for the vows?  Great!  No problem.  Want to spend the entire weekend celebrating?  Done!  Want to create an atmosphere where friends and family from both sides get to know and enjoy each other? This is it!  Even if your tastes are more traditional, your destination wedding will be unlike any other wedding.  It allows for a reunion of family & friends, while at the same time incorporates new relationships.

It allows you to have one on one time with guests.  Choosing a destination wedding gives you extended time to make memories with your guests.  Most often, destination weddings are more intimate than traditional weddings and if you have family and friends scattered across the country, it’s an ideal choice to have a wedding away since most would be required to travel anyway.

It is cost effective.  There are many resorts that cater to wedding groups, giving you some awesome group benefits.  You may be able to get your stay free, ceremony free, or other great bonuses.  Plus, your guest list will certainly be smaller in destination than at home, which means less overall cost.

Destination weddings are ideal for couples who want to save money, who want to really create memories, and who want the celebration to last longer than 1 day.

Very few.  The main con is that not everyone will be able to come. Make sure you are ok with this before announcing your intention.  If you know your family and close loved ones are onboard, that saves alot of stress later on.

On average, you should book 8-14 months in advance to be able to secure the wedding date and travel rates. However, this advice can depend on the size of your group. Smaller groups can get away with less lead time in the planning.  The larger your group, the more time required. You want to be able to give your guests ample notice so they can make the financial commitment and reserve time off.

It’s to your advantage to obtain help when planning a destination wedding. 1.  Decide for sure you want to do this.  As in most decisions we make, there will be people who don’t love the idea and may want to talk you out of it.  Make sure you are solid in your decision before you announce it, so that others won’t sway you.  In fact, waiting to announce it until it is officially planned gives you the advantage over the negative nellies.
  2. Choose a destination.  Consulting an experienced destination wedding travel planner will help make this step easier.  Take into consideration the budget of your guests in terms of air tickets and travel ease.
  3. Choose a resort.   Usually harder than it sounds.  In a day where online reviews can be purchased and pictures can be edited, it’s difficult to really know what a resort is like if you have not been there.  Again, relying on an expert is key.  The best ones know the destinations and resorts well and will be able to give you personalized guidance. 4.  Secure the ceremony date and time with the resort or venue.
  5. Secure a room block for your group if inviting guests.  There is nothing more awkward than inviting guests to a destination wedding resort and having it sell out before everyone books their travel.  Room blocks are especially vital if you are traveling during high season, to a popular resort, or if you have a big group,  This part will require a deposit and a contract.  However, do not worry – our destination wedding planners have daily experience in handling these details and can walk you through it.  They also should have resort contacts that allow them to save you money on the deposit.
  6. Decide how guests will book.  If you are using an expert, they probably already have this set up for you.  If not, make sure to have a plan that pays attention to the important dates on your contract.  Missing a date can be costly.
  7. Get the word out.  Again, your destination wedding planner will probably make this step very easy for you.  Otherwise, you will need some way to let your friends and family know the plan.  They need travel information as soon as possible – ideally 9-12 months in advance.
  8. Decide on your events, decor, vendors and details.
  9. Travel!  Congratulations!
